FML Theory & La Cucaracha Smile: An Interview with La Chica Boom

La Chica Boom describes her burlesque as “Mexi-sexy satire,” “ethnic drag,” and  “minstrelsy.” Intrigued? Terrified? Both are appropriate. Tune in to find out why she invented the term “spictacles” to describe her work and “FML theory” to describe her life. Other highlights include:

    • why she identifies as a cockroach,
    • why she’s fascinated by California Chicanos,
    • and why as a burlesque performer of color, you might sometimes hate your audience. (HINT: The answer is racism!)

    Downloadable version here.

    Transcription coming soon.
